5 Ways to Make Sure Your Home is Safe for Trick-or-Treaters

It’s the time of year where kids of all ages prepare to hit the streets for some candy! This also means that people who are unfamiliar to your home and your property will be present so you want to make sure you are ready! Listed below are 5 ways you can make sure your home and property is ready for trick-or-treaters before they arrive:

1. Make Sure Your Property is Well Lit

Keep the pathway to your door and the surrounding property well lit to avoid any accidents from happening and help little feet safely find their way to the goodies. Also consider using LED lights in your pumpkins. We get it, you want to show off your masterpiece of a Jack-O’-Lantern and the LED light will still do just that! By doing this you will avoid the fire risk that comes with live flames, especially with the added risk of draping costumes and accessories being flaunted by.

2. Have a Clear Path to Your Door

Keep your walkway clear from clutter to avoid tripping hazards and prevent any other possible accidents from occurring.

3. Tidy Your Yard

The goal is for trick-or-treaters to stay on the yellow brick road that leads straight to your doorstep, but there is a possibility kids may wander. Make sure you put away any lawn equipment, electrical cords are safely out of the way, and tidy up anything that is or may seem hazardous. If you’re wondering if that twig in your yard is considered hazardous, let’s be honest, it probably is because we all know a lot of kids have a tendency to trip on their own feet.

4. Consider Your Candy Choices

Many kids are allergic to different things, the big one being peanuts. When shopping for candy you plan to hand out when the kids come knocking, check the candy bags label carefully. Even if it doesn’t contain peanuts, it may have been made in a facility that processes peanuts.

5. Keep Pets Inside and Away from the Door

As much as we love them and as sweet as they are, not everyone who comes to the door is going to want to meet fluffy. When you are constantly opening and closing your door, this  makes it easy for pets to escape and possibly knock down and inadvertently harm a child. Halloween can also be stressful for your pets so keeping them in a secured room away from the door is the safest place for everyone.

From us at Cal LeGrow, we hope you have a safe and spooky Halloween!
